WORDS WE LIVE BY
By Walker Moore Admin
What inspires us
Perfection kills creativity. We began the brand not quite knowing where we were going. We knew Gin, but we didn’t know our style, we didnt know what inspired us yet and most notably we didnt know what the fuck we were doing (still don’t, but atleast we’re doing it with style)
At the core, we love good gin, our main goal is to make a fantastic drop that you want to keep stocked in your booze cupboard forever. But we’re also excited to bring our brand to life.
Walker Moore is a combination of our Mothers maiden names, Wendi Walker and Mandy Moore, this venture is an ode to them and the lessons they taught us to lead us to where we are today. Good or bad, right or wrong, everything leads you to this present moment.
The inspiration to start our own brand is simply the dream of working for ourselves. “Find a job you love and you wont work a day in your life” we know thats bullshit, but it certainly does help when you DO love your job. So why not work with your best friend and partner, creating a product you love, and building an aesthetic that is unashamedly you?
Why Not? Why wait? When we would talk about having our own Gin distillery we would talk about it so far in the future, when we were retired from the daily slog, finally one day we stopped and thought “what the fuck are we talking about? Why wouldnt we do this now?” We had just come out of what was essentially a 2 year lockdown where we as individuals (and as a society in Melbourne) felt as though we had been robbed of time, which in turn, has created this strange anarchist view of “no, I’m not going to work at a job that I hate for no money, I just lost two years of my life!”
Our inspiration comes in many facets but what drives us to be the best we can is our family and our city. Melbourne is the best city in the world and by no surprise to us, High Street was voted the coolest Street in the world, following after Smith Street a couple of years ago. There is just something in the air in Melbourne, the smell of any type of cuisine you could think of, the sound of footy sirens, the scent of the best coffee in the world, the disco music blasting on the corner of Gurtrude and Smith Street every night, the bitter frost in Winter or the deadly heat in Summer. Whatever it is, this cities rich and diverse culture keeps us moving.
You’ll notice alot of photos of our families living their life in the 70s, 80s and 90s, and you may even notice some locations, my mum grew up in Northcote (formally Westgarth) and my Dad in Glenroy. When we say we love where we’re from, it’s because it’s our home. It’s our families home.
We’ve spent countless hours learning, trying, failing, starting over, waiting, being scared shitless, feeling proud, feeling terrified, and pushing through to bring Walker Moore to life.
My mum taught me to atleast try, this was most notably in regards to VCE where I get a final score of 49, but hey, I tried! As I have grown this mentality of atleast giving it a crack has grown to be something I live by, I hate to sound cliche, but life IS too short to not try. Born to try, Delta Goodrum.
